migraines

Migraine headaches are common and more prevalent in women than in men. They often run in families and can affect both children and adults.

Typically, migraines cause moderate to severe throbbing pain, usually on one side of the head, though some people, especially children, may feel pain on both sides. Physical activity often worsens the pain.

Other symptoms may include:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Sensitivity to light and sound
  • A visual disturbance called an aura, which can appear as flashes of light, zig-zag lines, or dark spots. This aura may occur before or during the headache.
