Hemorrhoids, commonly known as piles, are swollen veins located in the anus and lower rectum. They are similar to varicose veins. Hemorrhoids can develop inside the rectum, referred to as internal hemorrhoids, or under the skin around the anus, known as external hemorrhoids.
